Herring

Although it seems early for herring, I understand that they have indeed returned to our area according to some reports. You might try buying an inexpensive herring rig from you local B&T and try jigging for them either at the Jones Beach Piers Filed #10 or the Magnolia Fishing piers in Long Beach. I always did my best when I jigged for them at night.

In December through March you'll find the harbor seals snacking on a few of them behind Jones Beach.

I do not think they are here yet, but the consturction dock area and the bridges are always a good bet

I did see quite allot of shad today in Jones Inlet and by the construction dock they were really thick. I did see a Harbor Seal stick it's head up over there today at dusk. I tried the standard jap herring jig and caught shad like you catch herring, 2-3 at a time.

I didn't get any takers using the live shad. I did hear of a fish caught with shad yesterday morning.

I fished live shad on Saturday in the Great South Bay for 3 bass. Two were in the low twenties, the other weighed in at 43 lbs. Could have used it yesterday in the Riverview tournament.
