I saw Charlie Daniels and 38 Special this evening with a lame opening act that did nothing really except chew up time from CDB in the end….

38 Special was awesome playing an hour and Van Zandt was very good this evening although the guitar layer does most of the singing….everything was perfect…still the hits in the key of E so he still has it….looked like Van Zandt, the guitar player, bass and drums were original members. Guitar was a walnut finished TV special or LP Jr. double cutaway…I couldn’t tell but he did say he has been using it since the 70’s so who knows what year it is….the other player used fake tele’s

CDB was just what you would expect…but the lame opening act and the hard 11:30 curfew at Westbury really cut down the numbers he could pay and the 10 minute drum solo was a waste of time…

Lots of LP’s for Charlie…looked like new standards and very bright CSB finishes on them all. His band of keys, bass and the guitar player have been with him forever and are fantastic. The old time other guitar player was playing a walnut ES335 and I would swear they were PAF’s as his tone was to die for both lead and rhythm wise. The third guitar player used something I recognize the shape but not the name

They did Troubadour, Long Haired Country Boy, Devil Went Down and couple of very long jams, a gospel number he wrote, but I was very disappointed with the song selection. No Call Up Trudy, no Diablo, no Saigon no Uneasy Rider…he played MUCH better songs last year when he came by but he did 1:45 last year…tonight just over an hour with a Volunteer Jam at the end of the South’s Gonna Do It Again…

Still CDB is Awesome!!
