Q man I'm no expert, but you sometimes need a cystal ball. However I believe it should help more then hurt. It might help the blackfish to go active. Expert more ling on your trip then any other type of fishes. I wanted to add that I heard this from old timers. When the wind blows from the West , fishing is at its best and when the wind blows East, fishing bites the least. South wind means warmer water, which is what the doctor order.

The wind has neen blowing east all day, There is a large ground swell in the ocean and the forcast doesnt look any better for tomorrow.Bottom fishing in an east wind is the kiss of death, sorry but its the truth.

Hate to say it but the wind has been from the East, SE & Earlier in the week NE:mad:. It hasen't laid down and does not look promising except perhaps for Sunday when it is supposed to turn West. It is heaving and supossed to be 4-6ft. In any way size shape or form, that makes the bottom fishing difficult at best. Another possible blow out this weekend.
If it is not as bad as forecasted, just like last Saturday we will be giving it a go, especially since there are scattered reports of Macks in the hole. We need to find em!

Sunday will be the day I plan on going. Just not feeling all warm and fuzzy about the conditions. I guess I could go for flounder, but I would much rather head off shore. It definately can't be any worse than the last time I was out.

QUAN, any time your looking to go bottom fishing try to stay away from east winds.especially if its been blowing east for a couple of days.East wind causes a heave or roll in the ocean and it churns up the bottom making the water dirty on the bottom. Look for west , south west or north west. The first day of east wind is ok but anything after one day is no good.Just what I have learned over the years, hopes this helps you out,,,joe

A little late for that now. I just came back from dinner and cocktails and won't be shaping up for the morning. I do feel a sudden sniffle coming on for tuesday though.
With all due respect....and don;t take this the wring way anyone...I don't want it to sound like a pompous arse ss....what good is an "Ask the Experts" Forum if anyone and anyone can answer??
Ask the experts means Joe Gullo, or a profesisonal captain like Greg, Chris Cullen etc...even myself perhaps, although I never claimed to more than a captain who fishes for a living (although I do wonder how "some" of them do it). :)
If anyone can answer then it just becomes a simple question by the original poster that would belong in the Boat Fishing Forum..right??
Or if someone posts a question on a topic I will call around to get "the" answer from one of several captains (experts) I know...
Granted there may be many reading, lurking or even participating on these boards that know a heck of a lot more than I or anyone else...so..the question is still
what is asking the experts afterall??

Good call Cowkiller (Joe). Fishing reports I read for bottom fishing were pretty much fish caught but a slow day. It pays to ask the experts.
