Joe*Rich or any experts do you used crippled herring or norweigan jigs for cod* I was reading a article on this and it is used a lot in Mass/RI/East end LI grounds or do use just bait. I was wondering if it all depends on area or condition.

Sam * both types of jigs work great with a teaser or two tied above them. Jigging is usally done when the fish are chasing bait.Herring* Mackeral* Sandeels etc. Drifting is usally done in deep water like Georges Bank* Stellwagon bank* Coxes ledge.
Biat is usally used when anchoring or drifting over wrecks* but jigs will also work as well. If there was ever one lure a fisherman would need to survive its a diomand jig. Jigs catch everything all over the world.
They come in different sizes and weights and colors. If you are making a trip on a cod boat that does alot of jigging ask them what types and sizes of jigs the are using. They will usally tell you what to bring as far as jigs.
