Stealing from my past experience as a soccer coach* I wonder if we are missing an opportunity to increase the participation rate for our favorite boats.
Now I know it is Sunday and there are those who will think my proposal is blasphemy. I also know that a lot of us took up fishing to get out of the house and all the "honey-dos". But* here goes.
When I was not particularly pleased by the play of a player* generally Dad would say nothing but Mum would find the opportunjity in the future to ask two questions:
- What was he doing wrong?
- What should he do to fix it?
I have started wondering if we will increase the participation rate if we got more women fishing. Once they get it* since they have no problems asking those two questions* I will bet we will see miore kids on boats.

My wife LOVES when I go fishing It pays the bills HAHA.Kids are tough these days with all this internet crap* video games and so on.I see less kids getting involved in fishing each year. They have BETTER things to do:crazy: . I try to get the young guys involved in fishing(as a sport) but its tough.

You have to take the kid's out when they are very young (preteen) and for something with good action. My dad took us out for porgies and snappers all the time very young. I then stopped fishing from about age 14 to about 23 as I sowed my wild oats. Returned to fishing and love it. Had I not been introduced very young may have never bothered.
Also kids are just too entertained today with instant gratification internet* ipods* text messaging* video games* DVD. They don't like waiting and working for anything like you have to do with fishing at times.

My 9 year old son has become a Master Crabber. I get a kick watching him go.

After many trips to the lakes* ponds & streams I started my son on Salt Waterat the age of 8 with an off shore trip to the poormans Canyon out of OC Md. After cranking on a Bluefin tuna with 2 of us helping him out * we dropped a 90llb BFT on the deck at his feet. The smile did not leave his face for days! Nothing was better. Now almost 17 he not only can not get enough fishing* he is coming along as a pretty darn good deck hand & fisherman. Its been great to have a fishing buddy!
Now he brings friends on board that have never gone fishing before. They have spent too much time at the computer or on the"Live' video games. got a few of them hooked on the Great Sport of fishing!
Kids* Fish & BIG Smiles....Not much is better than that!
get them Fishing!

My sons and daughters started fresh water fishing with worms. At first I would collect them from the garden then they got their own. Later I introduced them to the challenge of fishing with crickets.
We then started to fish for flounder off the Cold Spring Harbor dock before they made the transition to porgy fishing at Captree.
Now I have fishing partners when I go South* as I plan to do for Easter.
