Has anyone fished the Connetquot this year? I haven't fished there since last April. As a student last year* I fished there very often from February to April. As opposed to the previous year* the fishing was poor. The lower beats didn't have a run of sea-run rainbows. It was basically fishless. The previous year ('06)* was catching rainbows up to 26" during mid to late February. Also* I caught a couple of monster browns (probably also sea run) during a snow storm one day.
Last year was poor. The upper beats were stocked well* but primarily with smaller fish. In April* they stopped allowing wading. After that* I only went back maybe twice. It is difficult to fish from the shore there with all of the brush. Also* I felt like the staff was being overly watchful. It seemed like there were people around almost all of the time* hovering around you. The solitude and peace of the past was gone.
In other words* it was very disappointing last year.
Despite the smaller fish* I would rather fish the Carmens any day. At least you get to wade and have some freedom.
Well* I just wanted to see if anyone has tried yet this year.
Any other comments about the new rules or fishing there in general are also welcome.
