I saw on Jimmy Houston last year ads for a device you place on your rear or front bumpers and it is a winch/towing device. Anyone ever try or actuially have one installed on their beach buggy?

You mean an electric winch?

IMO those are better suited for pulling things out of your way (like a fallen log) and you don't have much use for that function on an open beach.

I don't know if they have enough horse-power to get you unstuck. But even if they do, where on an open beacjh would you tie it on to??

The electric winch is very handy for getting yourself unstuck. When the tires cannot get traction all you do is tie off to a fixed object, like a tree, fence post, or another vehicle. It doesn't take that much power just to get the wheels moving again. Its a must up in the mountains.

Dan - I agree in the moutains it can be helpful. But I haven't seen too many trees or other strudy posts on an open beach. And if you can tie up to another buggy why not use a tow rope instead?
