I have been winterizing my own boat for many years and storing in my back yard. I clean and wax it inside and out* besides winterizing the engine. I also air it out by opening all compartments and hatches with the mooring cover off and place at least four containers of moisture absorbing crystals inside different areas of boat* then cover it using a A frame I made so water and snow don’t build up on the cover. In the beginning of this season I uncovered the boat and discovered mold for the first time under the motor well area where the fuel tanks are* and bilge pumps and were the batteries would be installed. If any one out their knows of a product that have used and works to prevent mold I would appreciate it if let me know.

Thank OB Al

I am trying out Star brites mildew control bags; I put one in the cubby cabin and one under motor well area. I will post the in spring if it worked or not.

Clean it with an all Natural product from the Melaleuca Company called Sol-u-Mel. Depending upon the seriousness of the problem you should first try it at the recommended strength level. It that does not work* use it at full strength.

I use the moisture absorbing crystals also. I think last year was jsut so mild that mildew and mold were able to grow. Go in the boat every few weeks and dump the little catch bucket below the basket that the crystals sit.

:) I took the cover off the boat this spring and I lucked out No Mold.
It seamed like the crystals, and Star Brite mildew control bag did the job.
