Free Trip #4: Captree Weeknight Eeeling Stripers Midnight to 5 AM [Archive]

I had the idea of the next trip set for eeling bass out of Captree on the Island Princess (www.islandprincessfishing.com) and will be fishing only one side of the boat for 25 people. Minimum age is 16 years of age...NO EXCEPTIONS

JUST TIO CLARIFY...The trip is Tuesday November 13th sailing 11:45 p.m. to Wednesday 5 a.m. and has the entire outgoing tide!

They are averaging 15 to 20 keepers per night with 37 keepers last night. The boat usually getd $45 a head…you lucky 25 people get to fish or FREE.

Minimum tip is $15!

Same rules apply as to the other trips as we try to get as many new people fishing on the boat as we can. Good Luck and sign up now!!

I wish I could join you fellas on this trip but there's no way I could swing a weeknight like that. FYI* for those of you who have never fished aboard the Island Princess before* you're in for a big treat. They are by far one of the most courteous* friendly* and professional crews in the business. This fact is cannot be disputed as you will all see.

Sorry for being a bit confused. Opening post said this is a Tuesday trip not a Wednesday trip. This would make a difference to me being able to make it.

After reading all the threads it seems that This trip leaves Midnight on Wednesday 11/14 and returns 5AM Wedneday morning right?

If you remember I posted a week or two back about the Free Trip Policy about to change...my problem for example...and I am not singling you out GeorgeK ..BUT here it is...

For example...George...you signed up for two trips and have been a member since October 15...three weeks now...and you have 7 posts total and all I believe are related only to the trips you signed up for....

you folks have got to do better than this..

Sure I set myself up for it by offering these trips to my fans...but come on folks...Quest4 Blue has nearly tripled your posts and he signed on Oct. 23 with substantive posts on various subjects...

perhaps I should just let the top 25 posters on board??? I expect better than lurkers and freeloaders only posting when they want something....or to get on these tirps...:confused:

Hi DFC. Probably a good idea to use the boats equipment for the first time out b4 coughin up some coin for the wrong stuff. If you have a meduim action 20# rod with comparable reel you will be fine.

SOunds like we will be drifting eels out so rigs will be basically just a #3 to 5 hook and swivel. Maybe a three way swivel would be a better choice just in case we bottom drift.

Thanks Quest* I have a few med action rods and their respective reels with 20* 30* and 40# test* i also have gamukatsu circle and octopus hooks i bought a few weeks ago when i thought i was going striper fishing and i snelled my own hooks. and i believe i have a few thre way swivels ...so it looks like i might be ready...the only thing left is to actually catch the fish!!!FISH ON!

With temps around 40deg F overnite with wind and showers* I recommend lotsa layers* gloves* hats* extra clothes* and a waterproof outer layer with boots. I'll be the guy who looks like the "michelin man".

Anybody local to Lindenhurst needin a ride or coming by mass transit I'll be happy to pickup at the Babylon train station around 10pm.

Lotsa schoolies to 30" with a few keepers hangin around the bridge last couple of nights. Sporadic blitzes west ofthe bridge with a few 30# picked up over last 3-4 days.

Lets hope for some good action and catchem up!!!!!!

Here's the Dealio for tmorrow night..

1. Braid Line: LEAVE THE BRAID HOME. Leave the spinning gear home too. In a party boat situation you can't catch big fish with spinning gear. There is no muscle to the rod and you end up going around the boat and causing everyone else to watch while you fight a 15 pound fish...not fair to the rest of us

We are trophy hunting sailing midnight to 5 a.m. and if I or anyone else loses a BIG fish because we' re tangled with someone's braid line...well need I say more? I don't like braid line for this sort of fshiing nor does the captain. As a matter of fact I very* very rarely use braid for any chunked or live bait fishing either. Spool your reels with a quality 25 to 40 pound test mono and you'll be fine.

2. RODS!! Don't show up for 3 or 4 rods you will not get them on the boat. We are fishing for trophy fish. bring the one rod you want and a spare reel. The odds of the reel breaking down are far greater than a rod snapping. The boat has plenty of spare rods as well.

Just in case we throw plastic assassins at the bridge* bring a medium spinning rod. I am not anticipating doing this but you never know. And if we do this* expect a rotation system to be put in place so the same 10 people are not catching all the fish in the bow. If you catch a fish you move to the back of the line so the next guy has a shot...shorts or not* eventually all will have a fair shot at the fish.

3. BOARDING: We board the boat in the order we signed up in. No one gets on the boat untill I call your name...if I arrive and you are placed at the rail already you drop to last on the list and everyone moves ahead of you

4. The POOL: There are no pools on these free trips...if you want to spend money give it to the mate...

5. TIPPING: The minimum tip is $15 period....I expect that mate to tell me he had a $375 night...if he cleans a lot of fish for you...you may tip him extra...it is not mandatory but you can. If you have a question or feel there is a problem* come to me privately to let me know.

6. COOLERS: Leave the 100 quart and giant coolers in your car....the boat has buckets for your fish* if you want to bring a small cooler fine* but please don't bring a large cooler for fish and another cooler for lunch and snacks....pick a cooler for your lunch and refreshments and stay with that and as you empty that as you eat you fill it with fish.

The bitew has changed laittle the last day or two and the last of the incoming is a good bite. Captain says we should be ready to go at 11 p.m. as he will be pulling in at that time and we can sail at 11:30 to 11:30...

IF ANYONE HAS A PROBLEM SAY SO NOW and we will sail at midnight as planned...otyerwise be at the Captree dock at 11 p.m. ready to board right away at 11:15 or so...

and if the 6-10 ttip has success we might actually leave earlier...if everyone is there...

I assume it is okay as long as you are on the charter boat but you know what they say when you assume.

The rod I was going to bring can handle 6 to ounces of lead will this be good?

I don't own a spinning rod I usually use a baitcasting reel but they all have braid Can I use this for casting to the bridge?

i went eeling about 2 weeks ago. they used conventional tackle with a lite wieght shot on the line about a 1/2 oz.
you just feed the eel out by hand. and wait for a hit. it's alot of fun.
if not mutch action they may switch to lite spinning tackle and cast bass assasins around the bridge. this is also fun but alot of work. you will be better off using there gear.

He asked me to remove his name from the list. His father was rushed to the hospital today and he is in the ICU. I don't know how to remove him from the list. Can the administrator do it ?

I had a great time*...the boat was quiet most of the night and people did get sleepy around 3 a.m. or so including me. I won't be doing one of these al nighter trips any time soon:D but each time a fish came up things perked up.

It was a slow pick all night but we finshed with 14 keepers and no shorts. Largest was about 24 pounds or so. I was high hook with three keepers in the first couple of hours it seemed and I spit the bit on two other sure bites...then i went cold the rest of the night/morning.

We gave away a bunch of Okuma T shirts and hats for fish caught and thanks to Tide Rite rigs by FJ Neil for giving us striper rigs for everyone.''

I want to thank all your folks that came and particularly those that had their second fish "donated" to feed those that had no fish. no one complained and that was a nice thing* so everybody went home with a pice of fish or two.

Thanks to the young couple who drove from PA to fish with us...now that's what I call fans of The Fishing Line...I will post a few pics later today. And thanks to you al for wearing your TFL winter hats!!

Thanks RJ for the trip and the great group of fellow fisherman on the boat. One of the best group of people I've been out on a boat with. Thanks to the Capt. Brian and mates KC and Dan for the quick rigging when we got stuck in those sticky spots. It was a pleasure meeting everyone from the board.

I had a great time and it was nice to meet a few of you fellow fisherman. The Capt. really tried very hard to find the fish and the mates were great * and ready to help in a flash.
Very nice boat very clean and comfortable.
Rich* im glad you brought those hats* came in very handy each time we moved to a new spot:)

The Fishing Line group took a night trip on the Island Princess sailing Tuesday (11/13) night at 11:30 p.m. and returned a little before 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. The bite was a slow pick through the night. Twenty two anglers finished with no shorts and 14 keepers to 25 pounds. High hook was Rich Johnson of The Fishing Line with three keepers* and two folks on board had two fish. We shared the fish so everyone at least got to take home some fish. The warmest night in weeks with a slow lazy ebbing tide made for a slow night fish wise but 14 keepers is nothing to sneeze about by any means.

Finally woke up..... I gotta say I had a great time (even caught a fish). Island Princess Capt. Brian* mates KC and Dan were the best..... met and made some new friends.... Overall great bunch of guys to go out and have a good time with.

i want to first thank rj for making all this happen i know it has to be a lot of hard work. the crew capt brian mates casey and dan were top knotch this boat is a class act and will definatly sail with them again thought i was skunked at the last whistle i hooked up with a fish the capt tried hard to get us on fish tough fishing with no wind/drift:D

RJ you are a fishaholic like the rest of us* I'm sure you'll be on another all nighter before you know it.
I used to get seasick on party boats about every other trip* each time I swore I'll only shore fish from then on* no more party boats. before I knew it I was planning the next trip! sometimes on the drive home! (I'd also say the same thing after an all night bender);) :beer:

Rich* I really want to thank you for allowing me passage on this trip. Although I came back with a doughnut* I still had an absolute blast. It was great meeting people from the boards. But I spoke to the Captain today to I.D. my stuff and asked about going out tomorrow night and he said they are sailing* but now you have me worried so im going to call him right now.:rolleyes:

Brian is leaving Saturday night after his trip for MA to codfish...he wil be back with trips on Wednesday* no sailing on Thanksgiving and they sail through the end of the weekend and perhaps longer if the bite continues and you folks show up...:D

Just spoke with capt. Brian..his trip to MA for cod was cancelled due to forcast 25 footers...

he will be around to sail the night trips 6 to 11 p.m. all weekend and through to Wednesday night* taking off for Thanksgiving* then all through next weekend.

I'm in* depending on the time and day. It is going to get tough now that season is changing. Weather is so unpredicatble. GOin out (at least I hope so) tonight out of NJ for offshore sea bass. Last nights trip was cancelled due to winds. Tonight promises to be pretty tough but saterday looks great - I guess we will see!!
