Our first trip is set! We are sailing on the Island Current in City Island to chunk GIANT bluefish on Wednesday October 24th.

This trip is limited to 20 people and we sail 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Marine Forecast doesn't look the greatest and i don't know where we will be fishing- think we'll get out?

Here is the latest marine forecast for the Western Sound . I think a 42' boat can handle 1 foot seas. Some showers may be around in the am but its not SUPPOSED to start blowing. I'll be leaving my house around 6AM with BLS-JDS* car is already packed and I am bringing a bag of left over macks and bunker to add to the chum line along with some diamonds in case we run across any surface action. Probably stop at Jacks first and p/u some last minute tackle. If anything this front should get em going even better and the cloud cover is always good-especially for stripers. Sorry to hear Big John won't be making it. See you all tomorrow !

Yep....Albany.......only 2.5 hours so it really isn't all that bad. Any suggestions on tackle as far as jigs / lures / poppers go? or will we be bait fishing more?

Guys * these are great conditions- we have outgoing tide for most of the trip too!

Ship- as for tackle we will probably be fishing with chunks- macks and bunker maybe some butterfish. I do not know what will be on the boat in the way of tackle. If you go to Jacks pick up some fishfinder rigs* wire leader bluefish hooks 7 or 8/0 is a good size and sinkers in I would say 6-8 oz sizes. You can also just tell them you are going on this trip and they will get you eveything you need.

I'm lookin at the Sound right now out my office window and it is just strting to kick up with the rain approaching.

Jack bait and tackle shop address is 551 city island ave bronx ny. As you get to the city island bridge(green bridge* you will see a marina on both side of the bridge. So after you pass the bridge* you will make a left to get to the island current boat. But instead of making a left once you pass the bridge...go striaght...you will see a dunkin donut on your left hand side...keep going about another 1/2 mile* once you get to the first stop light* look right and you will see Jack's/John bait shop. ;)

Yes we meet at the boat...they will have eberything..if you want to go to Jack's to say you hear his ads on our radio and to meet him that woud be great...but

The boat sails at 8...I will be there around 7:30 or a little before and we start boarding around 7:30 to 7:45

You all are going to have a great time. I fished with the IC a week ago and it was non-stop action. Capt. Chris is a real professional. The boat supplies everything and the mates are great. They are there with the gaffs as fast as humanly possible* considering the constant action.

Don't forget to bring your Grundens or Helly Hanson overalls otherwise your going to be a bloody mess at the end of the trip.

Also bring your coolers with ice to keep the fillets cold on the trip home.

What can I say - the weather held out * the company was terrific and the fish decided to eat (after some wise moves by the Capt.)
A big thanks to Rich ( even though he tried to curse us by eating a banana in the morning -almost worked ) * and Capt Dan of the Island Current. This was my first time on the boat and I was very impressed with mates Vinny and Francisco ( Mexico). Never had to wait for a gaff or unhook a fish. The one time I lost a rig I put my pole down to get some tackle to re-tie - I come back poles gone . A tap on my shoulder and there is Franciso with my rod rigged and ready. Awesome! I'll definitely be back.

I secopnd the motion on the mates terrific!! I was disappointed though that with 15 people on the boat* the mates only did $170 (total) in tips on a free trip that usually costs $45 to $50...that's barely over $11 per person and some had plenty of fish to clean..however...

It was pleasure fishing with you all today and some very special people indeed. "Kat" and her family were terrific even if she lost a dozen fish while talking on the phone and lost a few more even after I gave her my spot at the end of the day..

The fellows from Albany made the drive and I was glad more than half have never been on this boat before...that is always good news to the captain to have new faces and possible new customers....that is what these trips are all about...fishing with good people and fans* getting newbies on some trips and getting people who may not do a lot of party boat fishing on some of our advertising boats.

We try to make sure folks who may sail for free as pullers on party boats to put fish in boats that sell catches don’t take up rail space on these trips...

What a great time we had!!! It was fun fishing with a great bunch of people. The weather held out* we really got lucky with little rain. At first* the fish did not cooperate* but the tide was slack high. As soon as the tide started to run* we had blues on board all day. The first being caught by Kat* and the biggest (I have to say) by ME!!! The captain was great* right on top of things. The mates? I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful they were. Best mates on any trip I've ever taken. Thanks to Vinny and Francisco* who even offered to help me pull in my fish when I was wearing down. Rich* you were a great host* seeing that everyone was happy and well taken care of. Pictures to follow when I get them downloaded. I hope whoever else had a camera will post theirs too. Thanks it was my pleasure...all I ask is you spread the word about The Fishing Line and use these boards frequently...

On the mates...I was just sent an e mail about my comments on the tips...I am NOT going name names and I am NOT asking for anyone to post what they tipped...if I see it I will remove it...but..

one couple gave them $50 and another couple gave them $20...that means 11 other people tipped a total of $100...that is a disgrace...that is less than $10 per person and uncalled for...:confused: :rolleyes:

The service was fantastic...the rigs and gaffs were always at the ready and the bait fresh and plentiful...I will not accept this sort of penny pinching on any of these trips again...

from this point forward the minimum tip on these trips is $10 and if you have any fish cleaned...you better up the ante...$15 might be the suggested number

If you are not preapred to take care fo the staff...then take you name off the list on future trips and stay home....

I don't think that is too much to ask when you have top notch service and even if you are "self sufficient" because you are a pro (in your own mind)...you are receiving a FREE trip for doing nothing more than joining a message board.

LMAO! "Kat's Mom"... We had such a great time!!!!!!!!!!! I've been telling our friends all about the trip. I was showing off pictures of the fish my mom caught at CVS to strangers one line behind us even before we paid for them! :)

The mates were way better than I could have ever hoped. So much so* in fact.... I had to force a kiss on that annoying gnat's cheak(he know's who he is) I have a picture;)

Rich* We will definetly will be seeing you again and I'm already spreading the word about what a great time we had to our friends!

Wow* that's almost uncanny. Rafael and I were just discussing going to that pub and finding a designated driver to get home. Unfortunately.. as you may think we are "guppy fish" .. We and most of our friends are now "old trouts"

Great trip great time. The open cockpit is great for comradery* everyone was fishing and laughing together and cheering each other on* gonna be tough to beat on the other trips. I think I spoke at one time to everyone on the boat.
The mates broke their hump for us...why I keep going back* I'm also sending Capt. Chris a check for Vinny and Francisco to add to what I gave * they earned it.
