Instructional classes and Youth Waterfowl Days to occur on Oct. 27* 28 & Nov. 10* 11* 2007
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region One Sportsmen Education office* in collaboration with DEC Division of Law Enforcement* New York Conservation Officers Association* Suffolk County Department of Parks* Recreation and Conservation* Ducks Unlimited and South Shore Waterfowlers Association* has announced the dates for the 9th Annual Youth Waterfowl Program open to young hunters ages 12 to 15.
The Youth Waterfowl Program* an instructional course* is set for Oct. 27-28
Youth Waterfowl Days* specially designated hunting days* are set for Nov. 10-11.
The Youth Waterfowl Program includes instruction in hunting ethics and regulations* waterfowl identification* firearms safety review* retriever and decoy use* cold water survival* boating safety and trap shooting.
Each year* two days are set outside the regular duck hunting season in each waterfowl zone when any junior hunter may hunt ducks and geese. On these Youth Waterfowl Days* junior hunters (ages 12 to 15) must be accompanied by a licensed adult hunter. Adults cannot hunt during these two days.
New this year* program applicants have the option to attend at one of two locations: Hubbard County Park in Flanders or the County Park in Yaphank.
Participants must be 12 to 15 years of age* have completed a Hunter Education Course* possess a junior (small game) hunting license and have registered with the Harvest Information Program (HIP; www.wetland.net).
