Cold front comming today.Winds swiching to north east could this be the one that gets the fish going I hope!!!

For years I have been seperating in my reports (updated today by the way) wesuiters from surfcasters as they cannont be classified in the same category anymore. There are tooo many times I receive reports from surfcasters and wetsuiters where they are like night and day. What do you folks think?

Well, if you're SKISHING (as Paul Melnyck out east coined the phrase) I don't think you can consider it surfcasting. BUT, if you're wearing a wetsuit 1) b/c you feel it's safer than waders (never can get filled up with water, or 2) becasue there is a rock a little further than you can't get to with the waders and accompanying apparel...then...that's surfcasting. Any time you literally have to swim any good distance to get on terra firma, well, then that may not fit the traditional surfcasting definition.

Here's another question....

I'm fishing Lido in a bathing suit during the summer and realize that the fish are just beyond a bar about 100 feet from the beach. It's a warm day and since I'm in my bathing suit I decide to paddle out beyond the trough to that sand-bar. I get up on it and am now knee deep. I cast and am into fish all afternoon. Is that surfcasting? I think so.... Thoughts?

Tom - I see your point. Especially at a place like Montauk, not being concerned about waders getting filled up or falling, or being extra padded when you bump a rock can be an advantage.

If you swim out beyond the beachfront where other surfcasters are fishing and you get up on a rock in a westsuit..then you are wetsuiting and not surf fishing. You have an advantage that those locked to the beach in waders or who do not or cannot swim 75 yds to a rock have. Then you are wetsuiting, niot surf fihsng and not skisshing.:)
