It’s time for adults to head back to fishing school and sharpen their angling skills for the plethora of angling opportunities awaiting anglers this spring. Believe it or not with this weather we’ve been having…it really is a lot closer than you think and how it feels. I’ll be entering my 15th season as an adult education teacher and this spring we are coming back to West Islip High School. We start in only two (2) weeks so rearrange your schedules so you can attend.
The spring session starts Tuesday March 25 in West Islip High School for Inshore Fishing Secrets to striped bass, weakfish, fluke and blackfish. These classes run for three weeks only on 3/25, 4/1 & 4/8, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. all just in time for the flounder and weakfish runs. We’ve had anglers from as far as Manhattan and Westchester County attending. The classes run three (3) weeks and last 1-1/2 hours per night.
They are open to all including children over 16 years of age and cost is nominal at $30 for residents and for non-residents a like…not bad for three weeks of private fishing tutelage and video presentations. For information on these special Inshore Fishing classes call (631-893-3250 ext. 272) and leave a message if no one is there or go to www.thefishingline.com.
On Tuesday March 25, it’s Flounder and Blackfishing. This class covers everything on fishing for beginners to expert and includes tackle choices, spring bait patterns, rigging, bait fishing, anchoring, chumming and safety instructions as well as detailed maps of areas to fish. Special Guest Experts included.
Tuesday April 1 it will be fluke and weakfish and again areas to fish, how to fish, rigging, tackle, live bait, artificials, chumming for both and video presentations where applicable.
On Tuesday April 8 we’ll cover striped bass and bluefish with clam bellying, bunker fishing, trolling, tackle requirements, fishing and techniques on anchoring, chumming, tolling and how to really catch fish! Guests to include local party & charter boat captains.
