Hi Joe* I thought you were going to get a better answer than that frorm my offshore editor...and yes while there are plenty of strictly offshore web sites around* a Google search can bring you to many of them...

to simply answer your question...since you said Rockaway and not E. Rocxkaway I am sssuming you ocme of Rockay Inlet around Breezy Point.

You can catch sharks out of Rockaway Inlet as close as 10 to 15 miles but you usually need to find 100 to 140 foot of water with some sort of structure or rock pile* but I have seen and heard of Threshers as close as 20 foot of water in the bunker schools along the Rockaways where they use their tail to whip and stun fish before eating them..

You can see tuna in the fall at the Rockaway Reef and the 17 Fathoms area and both shark and tuna show at times on the Rocaway Reef* but a good stand by is the Glory Hole and the Monster Ledge..I wil get more for you after I get back from my sholder therapy later today....

I spoke with Joe Gullo former West End Tackle Shop owner (when it was good and the bait was fresh) who does commercial fishing now and who also sharks and tuna fishes.

He also mentioned what I forgot earlier...the Monster Ledge* the Mako Hotel* the H&A and the Mud Hole all have tuna at times during the fall and sharks as well. These are all highly visible on a Capt. Seagull chart and should be easy to find...

As for pure tuna fishing the tip of the Hudson Canyon is 72 miles south east of Jones Inlet* you may want to go S/SW from where you are to the southern canyons...

I was out on Labor day weekend. The offshore canyon fishing was excellent this year.

I may be new to you're website but not to fishing. I know the regulations and assure you that fish was legal. There is part of the fish missing that was discarded after it was collared. Do I wish my first Swordfish could have been bigger YES. but 59" (LJFL) is legal.

I am not questioning the legality of it...I asked how big was it? 50 pounds? 80?

Did not actually weigh it but If I had to guess it was 100#+. I caught it flat lining a sardine on a bluefish rod with a TLD 25* 80# power pro* and 50# fluro leader.

I don't know about that...what did that dress out to? I am NOT abig fan of keeping smal swrods and sharks like athat and would prefer those kind of pics never make it onto these boards again

Those are all 70-85# tuna in the picture. That sword is bigger than you think. A picture doesn't always do a fish justice* and you weren't there to actually see it. Five guys went home with 10-15 lb bags of clean meat.

Since this is my first day which forum lists the fish size regulations for picture posting?

I have never gone tuna fishing before.
Can anyone recommend any trips coming up for end of november or beginning of december? I live in queens but am pretty open to traveling to LI or NJ I also have two friends that are willing to join me.

I'm not sure about naming non sponsor boats so email or pm me and I will give you the name of a boat in NJ that you will have to call right away for their schedule. Time is running out as the cooler water settles in.

Thanks alot. Ireally appreciate it! I am like a crack addict and I want to get as much fishing as possible for as many different species before the new year. I started a new job and I will have no time off between jan and may. That's a long time to go cold turkey!!!
