View Full Version : Notice of Offshore Buoy-NOAA Meeting and Petition

On October 30, a representative from the NOAA National
Data Buoy enter will speak at the MACOORA* meeting and discuss plans to re-deploy offshore weather buoys.

This is our chance to state that we would like a weather buoy at
The Hudson Canyon

How often do we complain that the NOAA forecast, upon while we heavily rely, was wrong and created unsafe conditions for our offshore trips. Currently there are three weather buoys in our waters; one about 20 miles south of Jones Inlet; another about 23 miles off Montauk, and another southeast about 100 miles from the Hudson Canyon.

Part of the NOAA offshore forecast is based on the information provided by these buoys. But, the most critical path from 20-100 miles of our most traveled corridor does not have a weather buoy to provide real-time weather conditions!

Since NOAA is now contemplating re-deploying some of these buoys, we have the opportunity to influence their decision, IF, you take a minute to sign the petition.

This will be taken to the MACOORA meeting on October and presented to Dr. Rex Hervey. We will state that we, the fisherman, recreational boaters, Rutgers Marine Sciences, and the local Upton weather station need this buoy to increase the increase the effectiveness of the offshore marine forecast, and to provide better forecasts to insure the safety of all of us traveling this vast ocean highway.

And write a personal letter of support to Dr. Hervey.
