Me to. In addition to creating energy without burning fossil fuels, it will create a fish haven. Anything that creates structure for marine life to cling to and at the same time creates an obstruction for the draggers, is good for the sportfisherman.
My only fear is that they will put it too far offshore, or keep it resticted and not allow fishing.
It could also bring a lot of construction and other jobs to the area and probably would benefit the south shore economy in ways we haven't even thought of yet.

Fair to assume the LIPA representative will be able to discuss if fishing may be allowed around the proposed windmills or not?
How deep is the water three miles out?
I met with the biggies at LIPA this afternoon in their offices in Uniondale as we discussed plans for The Fishing Line and LIPA to team up again in 2003. You will be amazed at what I found out today about the windmills. It will all be discussed, as will fishng around them on Saturday do not miss it this radio show! Three miles out would be excellent. Maybe 50' and a short ride from the inlet. I could imagine a windmill farm from Breezey Point to Montauk. While I don't knowhow much electricity would be produced, I'm sure the fishery would be improved.

Given the post-9/11 world we live in, do you really think private boats will be allowed anywhere near them??
For that matter, seems to me they would be a prime target for a terrorist or any nut, especially if LI comes to really depend on the power.
BTW, I wonder what PETA will say when hundreds, maybe thousands, of birds gets chopped up in the blades each year.

Does anyone know where those pics were taken.
Obviously the technology is in use somewhere, I'm wondering what kind of experiences the local sportfisherman have had there.

Caught the tail end of the show, sounds like a win win situation for everyone, although its probably several years away at least.
Did anyone hear if this technology is actually in use anywhere?

Same way you keep from crashing into anything else. Bridges, bouys, sandbars, other boats etc.

P.S. I would expect they'll have lites and horns etc. for the fog, but you'll still need to use good judgement when navigating around them same as anywhere else.
