Ron,

I have enclosed a copy of the letter I wrote to the lovely Ms. Storbeck at Conservation and Waterways. As always she has been extremely helpful over the years.

As a slip holder in the Town of Hempstead East marina of Point Lookout, myself and many other slip holders wondered why it seems the water is shut off earlier each season. If the season lasts till November 30th, why is the water shut off way before then and in 99 out of 100 times nowhere near a freezing situation. We get nervous not being able to flush our engines after each use.

With a majority of pipes running along the surface of the water, even if we did get a quick frost for a day or two, there would be no damage to the pipes from water freezing, when water temperatures this time of year are usually in the mid to low 50’s, plenty high enough to keep pipes from freezing.

With the dockage price increase two years ago combined with extended fall season climates and warmer winters now the norm rather that the extreme, would the Town of Hempstead consider extending the summer season to Dec.7th since the best fishing of the season is the last couple of weeks in November and the first week of December?

I would be interested in setting up a meeting with you to discuss this possibility. I will look forward to hearing from you on this.

Thanks
Rich Johnson
