I don't know maybe it is just me but isn't it common courteousy to stop and help a truck stuck in the sand. Yesterday leaving Gilgo i saw a jeep stuck in the sand, so i stopped. He was in need of a tow cause he was so deep in the sand. My truck unfortunately didn't have the power to tow him out (i have a V4 4x4) so I asked the guy if he needed a hand shoveling out. He replied no but i really appreciate you stopping no one else has and ive been here a long time. I hope someone helped him out. I stopped because one of my first trips on the beach i got stuck making a turn. Someone came right over and gave me a hand shoveling out and gave a few pointers. Another time i tried avoiding a branch in the tracts so i deviated and got stuck big time. The first truck that passed stopped and assisted towing me out of the hole I got in. I guess what goes around comes around.
It does go and come around...it IS common courtesy to stop and help or at least ask!! Good for you!
By the way...Happy Birthday!!

One night I went to Demo with a buddy of mine, as we were on the trail we saw a flash light signal us to come over. We got out and crossed over a tidal wash out in our waders to get to him. This guy was stuck in it up to the hood in the front. We spent the better part of 3 hours to dig him out and had two different trucks to pull him out. At high tide his truck would have been totaled. Didn't get to fish that night but was glad to help as I would hope someone would do the same for me. Stop and help, it's the right thing to do.

20 Years ago I broke down on the belt parkway. I was quickly confronted by four thugs who made it clear they wanted to dish out a beating in addition to taking everything I had. There was NOWHERE to run and it seemed that any show of weakness would make the situation worse. Hundreds of cars passed by, all of them able to see what was happeneing.
Just as things were about to jump off, a station wagon pulled over. It was a Hasidic man, his wife and several kids. This guy gets out of his car and comes and stands next to me and says, "Now it is Two against four". It broke the spell and the guys who were ready to jump me backed off.
I couldn't believe it. I said to this gentleman, "You just saved my life...how can I thank you?". He said, "You can promise me to help out someone elsewhen you can". I did and I have. I have always wondered what the man's wife had to say to him. But I know he saved my life that day.
