I'm setting up two 9 ft 10 wt rods. I was thinking about setting up one sinking line, as I', guessing most of my fishing will be done under the surface and one floater to use poppers at night.
What do you experienced surf fly fisherman use? Thanks!

Try sending a PM to either Jaiem or Zimno1. They are the resident fly experts.

Most fly casters are using intermediate lines. Easier to work with than a full sinker. Not much use for a full sinker from the shore. More for from a boat.

Jaiem, Thanks for your reply. I'm glad for the advice, it's where I ended up after looking into things for a couple of weeks. I have two 10 wt outfits to spool up, one powell and one orvis.
What do you think of using the intermediate on one and a 'shooting head' system on the other OR can intermediate handle most conditions well enough?
Thanks.

Heads are good for distance and depth. Otherwise the can be a pain. And they can too easily teach you bad casting techniques.
Stick with a full line for now.

I went with the intermediate line. It was a good choice as i could use most types of flies i carried. Also, i bought a 'twist & carry' line basket....a great investment. I'm having a lot of fun with this set up. thanks for your help.
