I have been fishing this 20 acre lake for 22 years on a regular basis.I started fishing it before the bridges were put up that go around the lake.
I have come up with a few patterns that seem to produce on a regular basis. But i am always looking for more
About 8 years ago, weeds started to take over the lake and has changed the way you have to fish it. I used to work black jitterbugs across the lake at nite.I can no longer do this because of the weed.
On the other hand, i think the weeds have had a positive effect on the lake. When i walk the shore in the spring, i see alot of nice bass on there beds.Every thing from 10 inchers to fish pushing the 8 lb mark!! Yes they do get that big in there, i am sure of it.
The DEC said that the bass population is up and i see this with my own two eyes.A ton of fry that are along the shoreline, along with the amount of beds that i see.
Massapequa Res. is a lake that has a place in my heart. I learned to fish there, and have seen it go through many changes.
Who else knows this lake and what works there for them? Areas that produce,lures,weather,ect..Any history that would be of intrest?
Does the stocking of trout help or hurt the lake? I have seen bass feeding on the trout.
